Diamond Jubilee Pictures of Belper

Below are some pictures of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Belper.

Saturday June 2nd

 Belper's Personality Queen at the start of the Celebrations:

The start of the Royal Walk around Belper.  The walk, taking in places associated with Royalty in Belper, was led by Adrian Farmer.  In the picture is Bob Billington the Executive Director of Blackstone Valley Tourism Council:

The competition for the Best Dressed Premises was won by Hunky Dory.  Hunky Dory is situated at the corner of Bridge Street and Derwent Street.  The Royal British Legion Club in Strutt Street came a very close second:

The Royal Walk ended at St John's Chapel where there was an exhibition about Belper's Royal celebrations in the past.  The exhibition was arranged by Belper Historical Society:

Residents of Stanton Avenue prepare for their street party.  Other street parties were held on both the Sunday and Monday:

Sunday June 3rd

In 1833 the young Princess Victoria visited Belper.  A re-enactment of this event took place at the River Gardens:

Hot Potato dance group performing with supermarket trolleys in the River Gardens.  This unique group are based in Milford:

Derwent Brass performing in the Bandstand during the (very wet) Sunday celebrations:

Monday June 4th

The Memorial Gardens was the venue for the Teddy Bears' Picnic. Fortunately the sun shone for this event.  The picture shows some of the picnickers with the clown who provided entertainment in both the Memorial Gardens and at St Peter's Church:
