Black History Month

Black History Month

Belper Town Council is pleased to support this year's Black History Month, (October), both financially and by working with Belper and Milford Schools and North Mill Trust.

Due to Covid-19 the planned session for the Primary Schools has unfortunately had to be postponed until 2021, however, a virtual session was held for students at Belper School on Monday 12th October. This was hosted by Lynda and Catherine who run the National Caribbean Heritage Museum, based in Nottingham.

Dr. Suzanne Seymour, Associate Professor in Geography at Nottingham University, has carried out some research on the Strutt cotton suppliers and slave connections and will be giving a talk on Zoom on this subject during October. This will be held on the 22nd October at 7PM - joining details here

Val Watson will also be giving a talk, via Zoom, about Black History during October. Dates to follow.
