Serving the people of Belper

Belper is renowned for its colourful floral displays and gardens, the result of a collaboration between Belper Town Council and Amber Valley Borough Council's outdoor teams and volunteer gardeners. For many years the town has entered the East Midlands in Bloom annual competition, many times a prize winner; the elements needed for entry being co-ordinated by 'Belper In Bloom'. Despite the competition being cancelled in 2020 because of Covid-19, Belper in Bloom was able to successfully enter in 2021 and it was hoped that this would be repeated in 2022.

However, sadly, a decision has had to be taken that there will be no entry this year, the workload being too much for a depleted volunteer team. We are proud of our town and did not want to enter the competition without full confidence that all the necessary paperwork and required co-ordination was in place. This does not in any way affect the work of our fantastic Outdoor Team and the efforts that go into making Belper so beautiful. The town will still be cared for by both council staff and volunteers. Hanging baskets and floral beds and lawns are still a priority, well tended front gardens, adopted verges and volunteer maintained displays will still ensure a colourful Summer and glorious Autumn.

We are now looking to re-invigorate Belper in Bloom, to do this straight away as preparations for 2023 must start now. We look for new leadership and volunteers to take this forward. Please write to the Town Clerk if you are interested.

We are proud of what has been achieved, and grateful to all of those who have worked so hard in previous years, but now we must look forward to starting preparations for next year!

If you think you might be able to help and would like to get involved, please email us – We can't wait to hear from you.
